2024 Advise the President Teacher Institute
July 9-11, 2024
Economics Arkansas and the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum will host a three-day teacher institute around a new classroom resource in the National Archives Advise the President series.
The institute will take place in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the Clinton Presidential Library from July 9-11, 2024.
The institute will be open to 25 high school educators on contract for the 2024-25 academic year in Arkansas. Lodging and some meals will be provided, as well as a $125.00 stipend. Participants will also receive a classroom set (30) of the new Advise the President resource, along with other resources and lesson materials.
Advise the President Resources
"The Advise the President Series is a ready-to-use tool that provides teachers with an opportunity to bring historic Presidential decisions into the classroom. Using a deliberation process, students will learn about history by focusing on pivotal issues faced by past Presidents" (archives.gov).
The classroom resource booklets use original documents and photographs from historical events and give students an opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world historical situations.
A new resource focusing on President Clinton's campaign promise to strengthen the U.S. economy will be released in summer 2024 during a three-day teacher institute. This booklet will present students with various strategies his advisors and cabinet members researched and presented to the President, and the final economic plan he presented to the country in 1993.
Teachers attending the 2024 summer institute will also hear from representatives from the Ronald Reagan and Gerald R. Ford presidential libraries and will receive copies of their respective Advise the President resource booklets, each of which also focuses on financial and economic issues.
A more detailed agenda for the July 2024 teacher institute will be posted soon.
